About us: BEST, or Better Environmentally Sound Transportation, is a non-profit organization that has been promoting sustainable transportation since 1991. Our vision: Through sustainable transportation, we build vibrant, inclusive communities. Our mission: To activate better transportation options through initiatives, collaboration and leadership.

Since 2010, BEST has focused one of its programs (STAR) on the subset of transportation for seniors. Since then, BEST has worked with many senior-serving organizations on transportation issues, including developing needs analyses and feasibility assessments, and developing new transportation services including the Bus Co-op. In April 2016, BEST began coordinating a three year, federally funded Collective Impact project called Seniors on the Move, with the goal of reducing seniors’ isolation. Through its Seniors Advisory Committee and Steering Committee partners’ experience, Seniors on the Move identified a major gap: a lack of knowledge of available transportation options and how to access them. Thus, a project was begun to bridge this gap by creating a seniors transportation hub (at BEST) and a hotline (at bc211).
